 TCAS Monthly Meeting Notes

July 2005

The meeting was called to order by club president. Richard Hart, Sr. at 7:35 p.m.

LAST MONTHS minutes were not read OR approved.  Instead Richard asked Mitch King to give dimes to the appropriate people that didn’t get their dimes at the June meeting.

Richard made the following announcement:

                Adult volunteers with detectors are needed to show kids how to find treasure on the beach.  If

you have extra detectors, please bring to the hunt.  (No pulse detectors please)

The teaching demonstration and hunt will take place at Golden Sands Beach on two weekends from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.   The dates are on Friday, July 15, 2005 and

Friday, July 22, 2005 .           There will be free pizza.

We sold five club hats.

Jim Stewart gave another talk about fossil hunting at Peace River .  He said that the State of Florida passed a  law that was pushed through by the archaeologists that now makes it illegal to hunt fossils in any river in Florida .  Therefore, he said to stay out of rivers.

Effective 1 June 2005 , the state division has discontinued the isolated finds program.  Removal of artifacts from sovereign submerged lands will no longer be allowed after that date; removal of artifacts from river bottoms and other sovereign submerged lands will be a first degree misdemeanor under 267.13(1)(a), Florida Statutes.

He also said that there was an Ais Indian knee cap found at the old site of Bombardier.  He said that wherever there is an excavation site, it should be checked out.  But, he emphasized that you should ask for permission from the contractor to hunt those sites.

Marty Hufnagel will bring doughnuts for the August meeting.
